Mothers Day Giveaway

In honor of mothers - yours, mine and your children's - I am having a Mothers Day giveaway. I have 13 image CDs that were given to me and I am now ready to pass them along. It's my way of giving back to the givers, the moms. I read a lovely article this morning in the Washington Post, Her True Calling: My Mother's Last Gift that reminded me a bit of myself (or at least how I want to be remembered): "Above all, even when intent on the journey to find herself, she had always made time to be a wonderful mother to me, never failing to wipe away my tears and ease my pain. It was the one role she could see through to the end."

This is a huge collection of images from Red Castle that will keep you busy for months...years! How do I win you ask? Just leave a comment! One of my daughters will draw a name at random on Mother's Day. It's that simple.

PS Speaking of images, we are days away from my big announcement regarding my new inkjet transfer product, so stay tuned!

The first year without your mom is so tough on holidays, isn't it? You can think back to the last one and remember having her with you. I remember that so vividly from after my own mom left us.

Well, be a happy mom and grandmom yourself on the day. *S*

What a lovely quote from the Washington Post. I too hope to be remembered this way. My oldest son was married on Saturday and will be returning from their honeymoon on Mothers Day. It will be special for me as this will be the 1st Mothers Day as a Mother-in-law.

Hi Lesley,

Happy Mother's Day! I am blessed to be able to still have my Mother with me and am making plans to visit her this August to help celebrate her 85th birthday. This year for Christmas I used the techniques I learned from you at ArtFest, "A Woman's Story," to make a tribute to her Mother and my Grandma Emma. I felt closer to both of them during the process and after I'd sent it off.

Thank you for sharing your gifts and encouraging us to make art out of what we feel in our heart.

Lesley's work is beautiful, as is her idea to honor her mother & all mothers. So often we mothers end up feeling unappreciated & even invisible.

By the way, my own father recently died, and I have some ideas on how to honor him, as well.

Please register me for the images-CD contest. I could use some images for a website project that's underway -- to feature outsider artists.

Happy mother's day to everyone.

Hi Lesley! This mom's day will be a little strange for me. My mother passed away Oct. 2007 at the age of 86. She was independent & happy until just 4 months before she died. She only lived 5 min. from me in a retirement community. She use to tell me how happy she was living there and how fortunate she felt for the friends she'd made while there. When she was in the hospital & not well, she worried about my sister & me constantly. Telling us to get plenty of rest & take care of ourselves. The staff that cared for her were drawn to her by her caring words & humor. She would always tell my sister & I how much she loved us and was thankful for us. I miss that!! I miss you mom!!! So glad you're resting in God's arms. Thanks Lesley. Sorry about your dear friend and congrats on the new addition to your family. The circle of life goes on........

Great and novel idea.

I just drove from Ottawa to Nova Scotia with my brother in his vintage Mercedes with rock n roll tunes blaring the whole way, both coming and going (we dubbed it the rolling thunder review take two, as in the two of us and take no prisoners) to attend out Mother's 80th birthday DUE. She was pleased. It meant so much to her and all her family to have her three children and two grandsons present in one place to honour her.

Please accept my condolances on the untimely loss of your friend. Her wonderful spirit will live on in you, her family and friends, and especially her children.

Do you remember my post on the list a week ago about carrying pertinent contact info in case of an emergency? How fortunate that your friend had someone with her! It took the police several HOURS to find my daughter and tell her I was in the trauma unit of the hospital. Please, please, do this. On the back of your license put the contact info of someone who knows how to get in touch with your family. Give that someone a list of all of your information, doctor, allergies, medications, contact info for your children, parents, siblings, etc. Do the same for them. When I wrecked my car, my info was in my phone (it flew out of my purse and disappeared in the mangled wreckage) and my planner slide under the seat (unfound because of debris scattered in the car from the wreck.) I managed to tell the EMTs her first name and the name of her company.....The insurance company has told me "people don't survive in cars that look like that." I'm bruised but alive. The car will be replaced but as you know, friends cannot be replaced.

For all those you have loved and lost and for those whom you love and love you, do this. Give your info to a trusted friend and put their name and contact info with your drivers license. Let the police call them and they will call your family.

Do this because you are loved!! Thank you for all your contributions to the list.

PS tell your daughters they can pick my name for one of the CDs!!!! Just kidding....

Wow! I am so glad you posted the link to that story; it is heart wrenching yet, in a strange way I feel glad that the writer had that opportunity - so many do not. It made me think of a cousin who died from cancer at a early age. She had 4 daughters none older than 16. On the day she died, she had the girls brought to the hospital so she could say goodbye. After that she told her husband that she had one more job for him, to hold her in his arms and help her thru her final journey. I pray to be able to do that for my Mom someday, since she has done so much for me. Thank-you for sharing.

Leslie,
I lost my mother a year ago and I feel your pain. This is a lovely gesture to honor your mother.

It's only taken me a year but I finally am about to embark on my first Lesley R inspired mini quilt, I have been putting of the doing but have been diligently gathering LOL. I am sorry to hear of your friend, she is at least with her Paul now and they can take the journey together. I would love to go into the draw for some software, and am also waiting with bated breath for your announcement. Kelsey isn't near computers just now but will no doubt be over the moon at a new transfer technique.

Happy Mother's Day. My Mom is such a blessing to me, and I hope my girls say the same of me.

I'm in your Inkjet Transfer Yahoo group, and I learn new things all the time from the generosity of people there. Thanks for all the inspiration.

What a great way to honor your mother! In this fast paced world, unfortunately many motheres don't get honored as much as they should.

Having met you and sat in on one of your Make It U sessions at Chicago in 2006, I'm sure your mother was proud of her daughter.

My mom died in 1981, and I still think she will walk in the door, or pick up the phone...

The Washington Post article brought tears and tears to my heart. After almost 3 years without my mom, I can still hear her talking to me, and I still pick up the phone to call her everyday at 5pm. My husband just came thru triple by pass surgery and we will soon have our 45th wedding anniversary. My mom is telling
me to get busy and start doing all the things I have always wanted to do. After 66 years, I think it's my time. Time to open Quilted Memories, and not be afraid to fail at creating something.
This is a fantastic tribute to you and your mom.
Someday soon I will create something as a tribute to mine, and it will be because of encouragement
from sites like yours.
thank you
susan

Mother's Day is also my birthday this year, and while my mom has been gone for 16 years now, I look at photos of her each day and have great memories. Thank you, Lesley, for all you share with us.
