Winner and Free PLAY

The winner of last week's giveaway of The Studio issue 16 is Nikki Wheeler. A random number generator was used to pick the winning entry number.

Stop pouting - you all have another chance now to win this Premier Issue of Play by Teesha Moore - 46 full color pages out of the private journals of pretty amazing artists - simply gorgeous. Post a comment by June 10th to be included in the drawing. And don't forget the zines offered on my Ebay auctions which end tomorrow!

The purge is going well. I unloaded about 40 boxes (priority mail size) of fabric from my stash this weekend through an impromptu announcement on my own yahoo groups (LaLasLand and Quilted Memories) as well as the larger QuiltArt list. The response just about equaled the amount of fabric I had to share with the world. It feels SO GOOD to be making this mental as well as physical space in my life. Of course there were many I have kept, and I still have a lot of fabric. It's like your closet. You wear the same clothes that you love over and over while others languish in the back of the closet. That's how it was with my fabric. Over the years, I now know my tastes and what I love to use. I know at some point I'll wish I had some pieces back, but it will force me to make new design decisions and head in different directions. I already have a pile of fabrics garnered from my stash begging to be worked with. I can't tell you now (because I don't really know yet), but it's going to be totally different from anything I have done before.

I envy your courage to discard what must be wonderful pieces of fabric. I end up going back thru the bags if I collect some to discard. Perhaps I should learn to do this in dark colored glasses where the vibrant or beautiful colors won't look so appealing. Keep on, you encourage me.

I'll bet it feels good to purge your fabric. And the best thing is while you're going through your stash you rediscover some great fabric. I'm working on purging but right now I haven't made it to my fabrics yet.

Leslie,
I am underway on my purge. It is like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Now I don't feel the need to have to use something just because I have it. We all have tastes and styles that change. Perhaps we have gone through what we need to and the item(s) no longer relevent. Cheers to you. I really enjoy your writing.

I am slowly going through my studio and thinning out my stuff. I sent a large box of fabric to a couple of friends to share. I just had too much! It feels good!

I guess we all have too much stuff but it must be hard to let go of your beloved fabric. Please add me to the giveaway.

I did a purge when I moved to my current home. It did feel good. I see that I'm due for another soon, but I still seem to be in the picking and gathering stage right now. Please enter me in your giveaway. Thanks.

Due to rather extreme space limitations, I tend to recycle on a monthly basis...as I go through my beads or fabric looking for pieces for whatever I'm currently working on, I run into beads I've had for years without using and have moved past being inspired by...so they get put into a pile and at the end of the month I go through and see if I've added some stuff I want to keep and the rest goes away!

I'm thinking of purging my closet. I have to grow up more to be able to purge my sewing room! :)

Purge is good, Lesley...your purging could be my gain! Have loved your work and enjoyed a workshop with you at Valley Ridge in Wisconsin! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm not very good at getting rid of stuff, but I find it helps to remind myself that if there is soemthing I need, I will be able to go shopping..... I am under a strict, self-imposed, moratorium on acquisition, as there is Just Too Much already. I allow myself to acquire what is needed for a specific actually-in-process project. So shopping is a big enough reward that sometimes I can get rid of something I already have, because maybe I'll get to shop.... :-)

I would LOVE for the random generator to pick me :) Thank you for your generous giveaways!
I had a little trouble leaving my first comment, got excited, not sure it took, not trying to sneak in twice....really I'm not :)

As always, when I stop by your blog I am inspired, by both your words and your art. I'd love to be the lucky winner of "Play" but already am a lucky winner by having played with you in classes.

I love popping in here to find out how you are going, these giveaways are just a bonus.

Courage - yes, that is what it takes to 'purge'. It has been my experience that 'to receive the new' one must make room by lovingly letting go of cherished things of the past. Things that no longer serve our new vision. Go for it Lesley, you are an 'inspiration'
Thank You!
